The Deputy Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Hon. Yacqwub Mohamed Siyaad, led Djibouti’s delegation to the Global Climate Finance Forum 2025 convened by the United Nations Development Programme and the World Bank.
In his keynote address, Hon. Yacqwub urged for equitable access to green financing for small states:
“Developing countries like Djibouti are ready to act, but resources must meet our level of ambition. Climate justice means financial fairness.”
The delegation met with representatives from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and African Climate Foundation to negotiate new funding opportunities for renewable energy and coastal adaptation projects. Djibouti was praised for its transparency and regional cooperation model.
