The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, under the leadership of Hon. Yacqwub Mohamed Siyaad, has inaugurated the National Youth Climate Innovation Forum 2026, bringing together young inventors, researchers, and environmental entrepreneurs from across the country.
The event, held at the University of Djibouti Conference Centre, serves as a platform for showcasing innovative climate solutions — from solar-powered irrigation systems to eco-friendly construction materials.
“Youth are not just the future — they are the present drivers of change,” said Deputy Minister Yacqwub Mohamed Siyaad during the opening remarks. “Their creativity and determination are essential to transforming ideas into sustainable realities that protect both our economy and our environment.”
The forum featured 50 youth-led projects, three of which were awarded grants under the Green Innovation Challenge Fund, a Ministry initiative launched to support startups tackling environmental and climate challenges.
International partners including the UNDP, GIZ, and the African Union Youth Division pledged continued support to help scale these innovations regionally.
“This forum is a symbol of hope,” added Hon. Yacqwub. “It shows that with vision, mentorship, and the right policy framework, our youth can lead Africa’s green revolution from Djibouti.”
